Fiesta de la Merce 2014
Wednesday, 19 of September of 2018
And here we go again with another big cultural festival in Barcelona. You just cannot stay at home when the city offers you so much entertainment this weekend!
Fiesta de la Merce has started today and lasts until 24th of September. It honours the Patron Saint of Barcelona, Mare de Deu de la Merce.
During that time numerous events, parades, shows, concerts take place on the Barcelonan streets. You’d better leave your car at home as on the each corner you can find something that will amaze you. In addition, public transport runs 24 hours these days.
One of the most famous traditional events of the fiesta is Correfoc – Fire Run which takes place at dusk in Via Laietana. Just like I recommended in the post about Gracia festival, you’d better wear some fireproof clothing and glasses because powerful sparkler fireworks are sprayed right into the crowds.
In Placa de Sant Jaume you can admire the incredible balance of Castellers who build human towers
Or Gigantes (Giant Parade) where you can’t miss huge figures of kings, queens and nobles that spin around the crowd.
Apart from traditional events there is plenty of activities such as dance shows and acts that are worth to see – there are 89 concerts only! So you will find something for yourself for sure.
If you feel like continuing the party, after the street events you should visit the best Barcelonan clubs, such as Pacha, Opium or Bling Bling and enjoy your free entrance any day of the week with Lista Isaac.
